Package and installer changes, newest first. Updates marked pending are not yet published to the package repository.
The current installer ISO is dated October 22, 2026. Package updates are separate from ISO releases.

Standard shutdown and reboot commands
The small power-utils package adds shutdown and reboot to installed Tuxenix systems. Install it with sudo txpk --install power-utils.
Run sudo shutdown for immediate poweroff or sudo reboot to restart. Root can omit sudo.
The commands use the installed dinit-shutdown backend and preserve the existing dinit-prefixed commands. Arguments follow dinit syntax; scheduled shutdown syntax is not supported.
The update depends on the installed dinit package and does not upgrade it. The October 22 installer ISO remains unchanged.
Package versions (1)
power-utils 1.0.0
Verification: The exact package passed installation and reboot/poweroff tests in a disposable October 22 Tuxenix VM. Command paths and root ownership were checked; dinit, dinit-shutdown, Bash and libc hashes were unchanged.
Limits: Physical hardware was not tested for this package update. The working laptop and USB devices were not modified. Other October 26 desktop and installer candidates remain unreleased.
Installer networking, partition units and readable dialogs
The October 22 x86_64 UEFI installer image (1,313,968,128 bytes) adds network setup, selectable partition units and larger dialogs. Two installer packages are updated.
The Network page connects Ethernet or supported Wi-Fi adapters before installation. Saved connections are preserved after installation; offline installation remains available. More settings opens advanced network configuration.
Partition size fields offer MiB, GiB, TiB, MB, GB and TB. Changing the unit preserves the partition boundaries; editing the value retains alignment and filesystem limits.
New partition tables use GPT only. Root and data flag lists are removed; assigning a FAT32 partition to /boot/efi automatically sets the required EFI boot flags.
Dialogs and size controls use larger text and fully visible buttons. Display selection avoids oversized virtual resolutions and tiny preferred modes when a readable mode is available.
The installed system payload is unchanged from October 17. Existing EFI files and unrelated partitions remain protected by the preserving installer workflow.
Verification: The final ISO passed automatic empty-drive UEFI installation, disk-only boot, Ethernet networking and saved Wi-Fi profile preservation. No target-disk writes occurred before Install. Four installer regression suites, 41 toolkit tests, configuration checks and the runtime-library audit passed.
Limits: Real Wi-Fi association and physical hardware remain untested for this image. Installation is UEFI-only. The prior BIOS standard-VGA startup limitation remains; BIOS/virtio was previously tested for live boot only. Secure Boot and Windows/BitLocker remain unvalidated. Broader graphics, desktop and shared-ESP checks refer to the October 17 base image.
Published the October 17 x86_64 UEFI desktop image (1,313,755,136 bytes), with graphics, sound and timezone tools, plus 12 repository package updates.
The image uses kernel 7.0.11-r3-tuxenix-multilib, XLibre 25.1.9 and input driver 25.0.1, with Intel, AMD and open NVIDIA firmware and 32-bit/64-bit graphics drivers.
The image includes Sound Setup, Graphics Setup, battery percentage defaults and timezone tools, with Python, ALSA tools and timezone data retained.
Calamares 3.4.2.10 and calamares-settings-tuxenix 1.5.6 provide the timezone selection page and the preserving EFI installation workflow.
Updated Steam and graphics kernel helpers accept the recorded multilib kernel basename used by fresh installations while retaining their ownership and backup checks.
Published 12 repository packages, including permission-sensitive account/admin tools, authorization and filesystem tools. Steam remains an optional package installation.
Verification: Shared-ESP and manual blank-disk UEFI installations, disk-only boot, normal-user desktop/sudo, timezone persistence, repeated setup and Steam sign-in passed. Neighbor partitions and foreign EFI files stayed unchanged. 2 GiB live boot passed with UEFI standard VGA and BIOS virtio graphics.
Limits: Installation is UEFI-only. BIOS with standard VGA failed graphical startup; BIOS/virtio was tested for live boot only. Physical GPU acceleration, games/Proton, laptop audio/battery/suspend, Secure Boot and Windows/BitLocker remain untested. Steam reached its sign-in screen without account login.
Published 14 package updates for graphics, sound setup and simpler desktop commands. The October 12 installer ISO remains unchanged.
Graphics Setup detects Intel, AMD and NVIDIA display devices, offers explicit component updates and keeps kernel activation and reboot separate.
Added AMD firmware and the open NVIDIA Nouveau/NVK stack, plus 32-bit Mesa drivers and graphics-check diagnostics. NVIDIA proprietary drivers and CUDA are not included.
Sound Setup lists playback devices, helps unmute Master, tests the selected output and saves mixer state only after the user confirms hearing sound.
Desktop utilities use desktop-setup, battery-status and timezone-config. Published command names remain compatibility aliases. The old desktop and installer configuration package names become transitional packages.
Future image sources include the setup menus and retain Python, audio tools and timezone data. These source changes do not update the existing ISO.
Verification: Builds, helper tests, archive migration checks and a disposable VM update/reboot passed. The VM confirmed repeat updates, missing-Python repair and Steam sign-in UI. Software rendering correctly failed the hardware graphics check. rust-multilib is a build tool, not a gaming runtime dependency.
Limits: No physical AMD or NVIDIA GPU or game performance test was performed. Firmware and driver coverage has documented exclusions; NVK in this Mesa version targets Maxwell through Ada, with incomplete Kepler and Blackwell support. The new sound helper has not been tested on the physical laptop.
Verification: All 24 published files matched staged SHA-256 checksums over HTTPS. Disposable VM checks covered missing-file repair, repeat setup, emulated audio, preference preservation and a complete graphical installation followed by disk-only boot with Europe/Berlin selected.
Limits: Package updates do not add the new installer page to the old live ISO. Do not update the old ISO's unseeded live package environment. Physical battery and game behavior were not tested in this release.
Verification: All seven package archives were published and verified over HTTPS. Disposable VM installation, package-manager self-upgrade, kernel activation/reboot and normal-user Steam checks passed while preserving native libraries and unrelated EFI files.
Limits: Intel hardware acceleration and actual games still require physical testing. Software rendering is not a passing hardware-readiness result. No laptop upgrade was performed as part of publication.
Published the October 12 x86_64 UEFI installer image: 997,081,088 bytes (950.9 MiB), with IceWM on XLibre and dinit. It remains available as a dated historical download.
The installer confirms root formatting, preserves foreign EFI files and firmware entries on a shared EFI partition, and fixes firmware-entry lookup and partition readiness.
The website gained a compact download page, installation guide and package catalog.
Verification: The complete public ISO matched its local size and SHA-256. UEFI NVMe VM installation, disk-only boot, neighboring-partition preservation, normal-user sudo and IceWM passed. A successful physical laptop installation was reported by the user.
Limits: Windows/BitLocker, Secure Boot and broad hardware compatibility were not qualified. Later package releases do not change this ISO.
